Sphinx is a full-text search engine, meant to provide fast, size-efficient and relevant fulltext search functions to other applications. Sphinx was specially designed to integrate well with SQL databases and scripting languages. Currently built-in data sources support fetching data either via direct connection to MySQL or PostgreSQL, or from an XML pipe.

To install sphinx, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal)
sudo port install sphinx
To see what files were installed by sphinx, run:
port contents sphinx
To later upgrade sphinx, run:
sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade sphinx
Reporting an issue on MacPorts Trac
The MacPorts Project uses a system called Trac to file tickets to report bugs and enhancement requests.
Though anyone may search Trac for tickets, you must have a GitHub account in order to login to Trac to create tickets.
